October 16, 1882 – President Chester Arthur has sent Ferguson from Washington, D.C. to investigate crime in Tombstone. Elizabeth Blythe, a newspaper reporter from New York, has come with him. Ed Chandler and his gang kidnap both of them to try to force Clay to release Ed’s brother, Joe, from jail. Ferguson and Blythe learn that « wherever there’s sudden wealth, there’s sudden death ». « There’s always crime and lawlessness in a boom town.
